Silence is Complicity

Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.

Haile Selassie

Normally when I skip a week of posting I do it quietly. I don’t always have something ready to go, and some weeks I’m just really busy with work, or overwhelmed by what’s going on in the world, and don’t have time to type up my thoughts. Lately I’ve been saving my “Pocket Size Review” posts for those weeks, or just quietly skipping them entirely. This week has been a rough one, both in workload and in its emotional toll, but it is also not a week to be silent.

Black Lives Matter. If your gut reaction reading these words is to say that all lives matter, then let me respond that all lives won’t matter UNTIL Black Lives Matter. If you want to promote justice for all people, then you must promote justice for Black people. Otherwise what you are saying is that no lives matter enough to stand up and take action.

I hope the above is obvious to everyone reading. I hope I’m preaching to the choir. I don’t care if I am, because it bears repeating over and over, until it is recognized by all as a universal truth.
