BENU Supreme New Year Limited Edition Fountain Pen

The BENU pen company has brought out many creative and eye-catching designs since it began in 2016. For those of you that have been following my blog, one of my first reviews was the BENU Jolly Chameleon fountain pen. This pen is still a much-used part of my collection and one I love to show off. The good people at BENU sent me one of their Supreme New Year limited-edition fountain pens to review. Thank you for sending this to me, I can’t wait to see what you bring out next.
Design: The cap finial is a very subtle dome shape. The cap tappers down to a wide steel clip ring and a sword shaped clip that is springy but holds firm on thin and thick material. A nice touch in the design is a slight indent under the ball of the clip which allows it to sit slightly in the body for a bit of extra hold. There is the limited-edition number, on my model 028/300, engraved around the edge of the cap. The bottom finial is a slight dome as well and compliments the cap finial perfectly. The body gradually widens from the bottom finial towards until it reaches the grip section. There is a decent stepdown from the body to the grip section and the threads on the section are wide and smooth. The grip is long and has plenty of room to grip even for larger fingers like mine. The section has a gradual taper as well and ends in a flared finger stop before reaching the nib. The base color of the acrylic is a deep metallic green and it has bursts of shimming material that looks like fireworks around the body and cap.20191117_144320Nib: The nib is a stainless-steel Schmidt nib; I got a fine nib on mine. There is decorative scrollwork around the nib with “Schmidt Iridium Point” engraved and the letter “F” for fine. The nib is buttery smooth and one of the nicest steel nibs that I have ever used. I had no hard starts or skip throughout the testing on both cheap notebook paper and nicer Rhodia paper.20191117_144342Filling System:  Benu pens come equipped with a standard international converter but accepts cartridges as well.Value: The retail price for this model is $140 USD.20191127_205301 (1)Overall: $140 for a stunning limited-edition pen is a fantastic price. The nib performs beautifully and easily outperforms some of my gold nib fountain pens. The material is insanely gorgeous, and I continually find myself staring at the pen and watching the light catch on it. These are a limited-edition, so you need to act fast if you want to get one of these beauties for yourself.
