“Take care of your green thoughts, sustainable projects will grow.” This is the motto for the new Visconti Eco-Logic line of products. People all over the world have seen the environmental impacts of global warming and pollution. Many people and companies have switched to reusable and sustainable resources and Visconti has introduced their own sustainable line of pens. The Eco-Logic line is made from bio-plastic obtained from hemp plants. This is a non-polluting material that is very strong and durable. Per Visconti, they have “chosen to make this eco-friendly pen, not so much because a pen can make a difference, but to remind us that all of us can make a difference.” Thank you to my friends at Coles of London for sending this collection to me for review and to celebrate Earth day.
Nib Performance: I performed a dip test with the medium nib I was provided. The stainless steel nib has a crescent shaped breather hole surrounded by decorative scroll work that looks like flames. The words “Visconti” and “Firenze” are engraved as well as the letter “M” for medium. The nib wrote beautifully and laid down a slightly fine medium line.20200413_213842Filling System: Standard international C/C, rollerball, and ballpoint.Value: The fountain pen retails for $195, the rollerball retails for $185, and the ballpoint retails for $175.20200421_202053Overall: The idea behind an eco-friendly line of pens is really interesting. One of the reasons I originally became interested in fountain pens was the idea that they would last for years and I wouldn’t have to throw away empty pens. The materials look and feel wonderful and fit beautifully with the design and steel accents on the pens. I feel the price point is a little high, but like most new materials the price could come down as the materials become more available and easier to produce. I have a number of friends that work in the hemp industry and hemp based plastics are not only better for the environment but they are a quickly renewable resource. I have been waiting to see when this resource would break into the pen scene and I think Visconti did a wonderful job with the materials and packaging. I hope this is just the start of the use of these materials in the pen industry and I look forward to what the future will bring.Specs:Name: Visconti Eco-LogicDesign: Hemp BioplasticLength: 140mm (5.5 in)Posted: 159mm (6.25 in)Diameter: 16mm (0.62 in)Weight: 34g (1.12 oz)Nib: Stainless SteelFilling System: Cartridge/Converter Pros: Eco-friendly material, magnetic cap closure, recyclable packagingCons: Slightly expensive for a steel nibIn the same price range:Esterbrook Estie OversizeStipula EtruriaSailor Pro Gear Slim- Blue Dwarf
