Karas Kustoms INK V2
The original INK fountain pen from Karas Kustoms was introduced back in 2013. Improvements were made in 2015 which included switching to a #6 size nib and a different grip section. New improvements to the design were introduced in the INK V2 which included: an internal o-ring in the cap to prevent it from coming unscrewed when carried in the pocket, adjustments to the grip and nib assembly, adjustments to the threads, and a stop that allows the o-ring to seat against when the pen is closed. I really enjoyed the original version and couldn’t wait to give the V2 a try. The good folks at Karas Kustoms graciously sent me a pen to test and review. Thanks go out to them and please check out the V2 page and get one for yourself.
Packaging: The pen arrived in a simple cardboard box. I am not sure if this was because it was a review model or if this is the standard packaging for the INK V2. I enjoy simple packaging that can either be used or recycled so if this is the normal packaging, I love it. The box was plain cardboard and blue letting/designs. The lid of the box has “Create with Quality” and “Karas Pen Co.” printed in blue. The bottom of the box has a cactus, the Karas logo, and “Made in Mesa” printed on it. The back of the box has the website karaspenco.com and on the inside of the flap it has “Write On!” printed as well. The lid lifts to reveal the pen held snuggly in place in a black foam insert.
First Thoughts: The pen looks industrial and sturdy and the clip is awesome!

Design: The cap finial is flat and is split by the clip which is slightly raised above the finial. The clip is held onto the cap with two screws and it angles away from the cap the runs straight into a triangular shaped clip-ball. The cap is cylindrical with no branding on it and is removed with 1 ½ turns. The bottom finial is flat, and the cap is not able to be posted. The barrel widens gradually until it reaches a step down to the threads and grip sections. The grip section has an hourglass shape with a perfect flared finger stop. The model I received came in a gloss dark blue, with a grey clip, and polished steel grip section.
Nib Performance: The nib is a #6 Bock stainless steel. There is an art deco style design of engraved lines on the polished steel. I received a medium nib so there was a letter “M” engraved as well as “KARAS.” The nib laid down a perfect medium line with a balance of wet and dry.
Filling System: The pen comes with a Standard International converter and accepts cartridges as well.
Value: The INK V2 fountain starts at $95 and goes up depending on material and nib choices.
Overall: The pen feels durable and well built. The additions and changes made over the previous versions shows there is a clear attention to detail and constant drive for improvement. The grip section is probably one of my favorite sections I have used and fits my fingers perfectly and balances well. If you are in the market for a great writer that will survive being carried around in your pocket or backpack, or need a pen to survive tough working conditions, this is the pen for you.
