Benu Pixie: Metallic Dust Set
Benu Fountain Pens launched the Pixie collection earlier this year, and it has quickly grown to 12 individual models and five 3 pen sets. I have leaned more into pocket pen and smaller pens over the past few years. When Benu asked if I would like to review a set of Metallic Dust Pixies, I figured it would be a great chance to try a new pocket pen and to run a giveaway as well. Thanks go out to them for sending these to me for review, and you can find your at Benu’s website. I will be giving away your choice of the gold or copper finish in either medium or broad. If you would like to enter to win, please enter using the link here and complete the survey/enter your information. The giveaway will run for 2 weeks and end on 9/3/25 at 11:59pm Est and is open to all U.S. followers, shipping will be covered.
Packaging: The three pen set comes in a white square box with the Benu logo in gold as well as “Pixie” in a rainbow script. The inner box slides out from the side and contains a warranty and care sheet, with the three pens nestled below in individual slots. As many of you know, I prefer simple packaging for my pens, basic, effective, and recyclable if not needed. Benu has always been great with their packaging designs, and this set is perfect and effective. I have actually kept the pens in the box and taken them to work in my bag and they have not come loose.
First Thoughts: The materials picked for this set are phenomenal and perfectly capture the name Metallic Dust. Also, they are so cute!
Design: The cap has a concave finial and then gradually widens before tapering down roughly the last quarter of the cap before reaching the end. In the center of the cap, there is a carved out area which has the word “Benu” in either gold or silver based on the color of the cap. The cap unscrews with 1 ¼ turns (I was told this is the second version as the previous version took two or more turns) and it does post securely giving the pen a nice usable length. You could use the pen unposted if you have smaller hand, but for me it was just a bit too small to use it for longer writing sessions. The body is gloss black resin and has a slight taper to the matching concave finial. The cap threads are very smooth and the grip section tapers slightly as well before flaring out before reaching the nib. The bodies are the same for each of the pens, but the caps are each unique. Offered in silver, gold, or copper they have beautiful swirls of their respective colors as well as the usual amount of sparkles which match perfectly with the material colors(not too much and not too little), giving pops of blues, greens, gold, silver, and red.
Nib Performance: I received a fine, medium, and broad nib for this review. All wrote right out of the box, the fine and medium laid down perfectly balanced lines, and the broad wrote a bit wet. I am consistently impressed with the Schmidt nibs used by Benu as they always seemed to be perfectly tuned.
Filling System: Cartridge (possibly can use the Kaweco folding converter)
Value: $186 USD for the three pen set
Overall: I think these pens are a wonderful addition to the Benu collection. The materials are stunning grabbing the light and your attention. Most importantly they write beautifully and consistently right out of the box which is not always the case I have found in other pens. At just about $62 each, I think the set is a great value giving the option to rotate and use different colors of ink or different nibs (EF, F, M,B are offered), and you have the option to choose which nib each pen has when you order them. If you want all extra fine, you can do that, want a medium only on the copper, you can do that too!
