Baron Fig Confidant Journal

Paper: To test the paper, I tried a few inks, pencil, permanent marker, and a highlighter. This was to test for bleed through, feathering, and ghosting. I used a TWSBI Eco with a 1.1 stub nib filled with Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway, a TWSBI Eco with an extra-fine nib filled with Pelikan Mandarin, a TWSBI Eco in fine with Papier Plume Bootlegger’s Scarlett Letter, a Kaweco Dia 2 extra-fine with Monteverde Sapphire, a Papermate Sharp Writer #2 Pencil, a black permanent marker, and a yellow Sharpie highlighter. Each medium tested except the pencil and highlighter showed signs of ghosting. The marker bled through pretty consistently. But, none of the inks feathered and they stayed true to their line width and the Organics Studio showed off a wonderful sheen.Value: The notebook retails for $18 USD which is a great price for a solidly built, portable, notebook that is fountain pen friendly. The bonus of the company planting a tree helps with the price as well.Overall: I am very tough on my notebooks and it is hard to find one that holds up to everything that I can throw at it. The simple fact that I have carried this and used it on a daily basis and it still looks new is really impressive. There are very few journals that I am confident in, no pun intended, but the Confidant definitely has won me over and I can’t wait to try out their other products.
